Requirements to Study in the Netherlands

Known for international approach and its high quality of higher education is the lands of Netherlands, a country which offers one of the largest English-taught university courses in the continental Europe. Types of Universities:

Universities in Netherlands can be divided into two categories which are all state funded:

  1. Research Universities
  2. Universities of Applied Sciences

There is a long list of universities in Netherlands for international students where, 14 are Research Universities and 41 are Universities of Applied Sciences. The Universities of Applied Sciences prepare students for a particular professional field while Research Universities offer more research-intensive education. There are also many private universities and colleges in addition to the state-funded universities. In Netherlands, the academic year generally runs from September until May or June the following year while there are institutions or courses that take enrolments throughout the year as well.

Requirements to Pursue Higher Education in Netherlands

In Netherlands, the course options are almost unlimited for Asian students as an abundance of degrees are taught in the English language. Currently, 2,100+ courses are taught entirely in English ranging from training seminars to Master’s degrees.

The basic requirement for each course, is a minimum educational record of 55% and above in Grade 12. For students who have secured around 50% in their 12th can apply for the Foundations and Diploma programs. Before joining a degree program in Netherlands, the student should have completed 18 years of age. It is vital to understand that even although the Dutch universities have lower entry requirements, the standards are not.

The documents to be submitted to are as follows:

  • Standard X, XII, and the bachelor’s degree (if applicable) Mark sheets
  • TOEFL or IELTS Results
  • For enrolment for programs in Staatsexamen NT2 results of Dutch language test
  • Two letters of recommendation (LOR) if you have work experience
  • Motivation Letter
  • Resume
  • For art and design courses or architecture programs a Portfolio of the student
  • Certificates of State, National Level Achievements if any
  • Proof of Funds
  • Health Insurance
  • Passport Copy
  • Photocopies of these documents to be certified by the educational institution or a Notary and should be translated in English
